Indian National Congress on Tuesday announced an alliance with the Samajwadi Party for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh which will be held in February.

“There will be Congress and SP alliance in upcoming UP elections,” ANI quoted senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad as saying.

Buzz about the coalition between the two parties grew after Akhilesh Kumar surprised everyone in September, appreciating the 46-year-old Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi as a ‘good human being’.

“Rahulji is not there in the audience today, but the message can be passed on to him by the people who are close to him,” the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister had said while addressing a public meeting on the occasion of 14th Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in December last year.

Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha election is scheduled to be held in the February 2017. First phase of the election will begin on February 11, 2017. Fourth phase, which will be the last phase of the election, will start on 23rd February, 2017.
