IPL 2017 MI vs KXIP : Punjabi team celebrating the victory

In the 51st match of Indian Premier League, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) defeated the most successful IPL team Mumbai Indians (MI) and won the game by 7 runs. With this victory, KXIP has improved its rank in IPL 2017 points table. Mumbai Indians suffered no loss due to the defeat in the game as the team has already entered into playoffs.

After winning the toss, Mumbai Indians opted to bowl first. KXIP’s opener batsmen commenced their batting inning with a speedy approach. Martin Guptil and Wriddhiman Saha stepped into the ground to start their batting inning. Martin hit 36 runs in 18 balls and Saha scored 93 runs in 55 balls. Saha remained not out till the last of KXIP’s batting inning.

Guptil lost his wicket in 6th over and KXIP’s skipper Glenn Maxwell came to bat next. The right handed Australian cricketer hit 5 sixes and 2 fours to score 47 runs in 21 balls. After his dismissal, Shaun Marsh arrived in the crease and made 25 runs in 16 balls. Axar Patel batted next after the wicket of Shaun Marsh and scored 19 runs in 13 balls. Punjabi team ended up scoring 230 runs in 20 overs with the loss of 3 wickets.

Mumbai’s team too began their batting inning with a fast opening. Opener batsmen Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons started hitting big shots to maintain the run rate. Patel hit 38 runs in 23 balls. After the fall of his wicket, Nitish Rana arrived in the ground. Rana couldn’t score much runs and lost his wicket after scoring 12 runs in 12 balls.

After Rana’s dismissal, next batsman was skipper Rohit Sharma. The captain failed to play big inning and returned to pavilion after scoring 5 runs in 7 balls. Lendl Simmions was still active on the other end of strike and lost his wicket after hitting 59 runs in 32 balls. Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya were the men to bat next. Pollard and Pandya hit huge sixes and abridged the gap between current run rate and required run rate.

After scoring 30 runs in 13 balls, Hardik Pandya lost his wicket. Left handed batsman Karn Sharma, who stepped into the ground after Pandya’s dismissal, played a pivotal role in hiking the team’s overall score. Hitting 3 fours and 1 six, he scored 19 runs in 6 balls. Pollard, who was active on other side, scored 50 runs in 24 balls. The Caribbean cricketer hit 1 four and 5 sixes, but his efforts couldn’t make his team win the game.

Till now, Mumbai Indians has played 13 matches. The team successfully won 9 matches and earned 18 points from those victories. The team is set to clash with Kolkata Knight Riders on 13th May at Eden Gardens stadium situated in Kolkata, West Bengal. Kings XI Punjab is going to confront with Rising Pune Supergiants in 55th match of this domestic cricket league. Victory in that match is necessary for KXIP to get entry into the playoffs.
